davidlegendmcI started using it and stopped pretty quickly because it didn't know New Zealand existed. I'll have another go now though and see it's really global (and useful/fun) Wei YangWill it still have city based badges? (What about smaller cities?) Namanh HoangI don't think I would say that Foursquare has the upper hand technologically. It just has first to market advantages giving it more time to have more crowd sourced content. I've been using both for a while now and personally I'm leaning toward using only Gowalla in the near future. I guess having to add new locations with actual addresses in hand was enough of a reason to deter me from adding new locations.
I just wish it would notify me that I've entered a new location based on GPS and that I've spent enough time in the vicinity to warrant a check-in. Then it would ask me if I wanted to check in and like a sms message just fade away if I ignore it.

I wonder what will happen to the Badge system, or if it's going away. Mike LapidakisI am kinda opposed to this. For one thing, how will badges work? Will each suburb around a city have it',Balmain Boots;s own badges? What about the “friends in other cities” option on the iPhone? Will that show people that aren',Kanye West Air Yeezy;t in the specific town your in as not in your city?
The new feture is turned on for me, only working in the web app. It detects your city by your IP address (I'm assuming) and places you there when you log in. I don't think this will be taken well by the community. IMHO

It may just be when you open the iPhone app, it changes your city, similar to the old way, just on a smaller scale. Bill_SimmelOh great! According to a report by CNET, the social location service now offers you the ability to check in anywhere from your mobile phone. This is in contrast to the previous system, where you chose your specific city if it wasn’t auto-detected. Smaller towns and cities in this system were left out, making it difficult for FoursquareFoursquare to spread beyond urban sprawls.
The new upgrade hasn’t been rolled out to everyone yet — technically, it’s a soft launch.
